RGC U18s Men's Head Coach was delighted with his side's character as they claimed a 33-40 away victory at the Dragons.
"It's really pleasing to travel down to Ystrad Mynach and pick up the win against the Dragons. The boys didn't have it all their way, with both teams looking to play some good rugby. We went into half-time a few scores up but unfortunately, the Dragons came out second half and got back in the lead and with a few minutes remaining it was 33 all. Credit to the players as we managed to get ourselves in a position and create an opportunity with Archie Talbot finishing one one-on-one, to get the try and the win.
We practice a lot of situational stuff in training - closing out a game when you're in the lead or just creating that opportunity to get the win - so it's good from our coaching perspective to see the boys turn what we've done in training into a game situation. Last season we lost to Dragons by a last-play score, so to see the learning and growth to get a result is pleasing.
We still have elements of our game to work and that's the focus this week, before we play Cardiff (Sunday 1st September at Colwyn Bay RFC. 2.30 pm)
