RGC to Kick Off Season in Cardiff

RGC to Kick Off Season in Cardiff 6 Medi 2023

RGC start their league campaign on Saturday, against Cardiff who picked up a draw last weekend at Pontypridd.

The Gogs head to the capital looking to win at the Arms Park for the first time since 2016.

Head Coach Ceri Jones “Cardiff consistently are one of the best, and have been over the past few seasons and it’s a massive challenge for us as a young squad to go down the the Arms Park.

We have looked back at the Caldy game, and we know it was a below-par performance and we got a response in training this week.

With it being a 13-team league we are focusing on the season as blocks, with a 4-game block before a break then it’s 8 games on the bounce.  Those first 4 games are weighted with 3 on the road, Cardiff, Bridgend and Ebbw Vale with Newport at home next week.

Player we have some experience on the sidelines but hopefully, by the 2nd block we will be having a few of those boys back”

The Cardiff side have a familiar face in the squad with former player Shaun O’Rourke signing for them in the summer and they will be looking for a win after drawing last week's fixture at Pontypridd.

Winger Rhys Tudor knows nothing less than a top performance from the side is needed to get a result

“It’s never easy going to Cardiff, and we know we will need to perform at our top level and last season's results came our way when we were consistent for 80 minutes.

With all the teams playing last week, we are keen to get going and it’s an exciting month for us with Cardiff this weekend, Newport at home then into a cup game against Bridgend.  September will test us but we can’t wait to get going.

The pre-season games have given us some work-ons, and the matches against tough English Championship teams have shown us where we need to be and get to, and that’s been the focus this week in training as we prepare for the trip down to the Arms Park.”
