Training Update - Howards Way

15 Aug 2024

As the senior side gets set for pre-season games, kicking off on Friday (16th August) at Wrexham, when they play Caldy (7 pm) - Strength and Conditioning Coach Shawn Howard updates how training has been going over the summer.

"After some well-deserved time off, it's been really good getting things back up to training levels.

Physically, the group came back in pretty good condition, which meant we could hit the ground running during Block 1 of pre-season. This initial phase is always critical as it sets the foundation for the rest of our training program, and starting strong has been great for the rate at which we can progress. Since being back, the overall aim has been to gradually increase our training volume while building the players' capacity for contact and speed exposures. The players have shown great commitment and enthusiasm, embracing the challenges presented to them by the coaches.

From a physical perspective, the main aim for Block 2 is to prepare for competition, meaning we will shift our focus from strength and volume in the gym to more explosive movements. On-field, we'll continue to build up our training volume while factoring in our scheduled pre-season fixtures starting on Friday.

Overall, pre-season has been progressing really well, and I'm excited to see how the players' hard work transfers into our upcoming pre-season friendlies."
