Senior Academy New Faces//Wynebau Newydd i’r Academi Hŷn
With the new Super Rygbi Cymru season approaching, RGC are delighted to see another batch of Junior Academy Players stepping up to the Senior Academy for 24/25.
Gyda tymor newydd Super Rugby Cymru yn nesau, mae Rygbi Gogledd Cymru wrth ei modd i weld grŵp arall o chwaraewyr yr Academi yn camu i fyny i’r Academi Hŷn ar gyfer 24/25
Dylan Alford (Bethesda) Second Row - Dylan will be on a dual contract between RGC and the Scarlets. This will see him continue his development with RGC over the next couple of years before transitioning down West in his third year. Alongside his rugby Dylan will either take up a place on the WRU Apprenticeship programme or begin his studies at Bangor University.
Tudur Jones (Llangefni) Scrum half - Tudur will join the RGC Senior Academy and focus on his rugby in his first year, before considering his university options thereafter.
Twm Owen (Bethesda) Second Row - Twm will remain attached to RGC Senior Academy whilst studying at Loughborough University.
Greg Thomas (Wrexham) Prop - Greg is hoping for a place on the WRU Apprenticeship programme whilst further developing his rugby.
Osian Moore (Bethesda) Backrow - Osian will be taking on a trade apprenticeship whilst training with the SRC team.
Tyler Wiliams (COBRA) Scrum half - Tyler will continue working in the dairy farming industry whilst training with the SRC team.
As we head into the new season, we continue to plan for the future by progressing the next generation of players into the Senior environment.
Josh Leach - RGC Academy Manager. – “Off the back of the good work Saul, Dafydd and the Junior Academy staff have done over the past two years, it’s great to see another good group of players progressing into the Senior Academy.
In order to retain and further develop the highest potential players we need to adapt their programmes to support their academic and vocational needs and personal situations at this time in their lives. Dylan Alford for example, will be on a dual contract that will see him spend pre-season with the Scarlets and then with us at dedicated times of the season.  Twm Owen is going to Loughborough University, so we have planned his involvement around this.
Tudur Jones has been playing for Wales U18s and featured in the Premiership side at the back end of last season, so we will continue to develop and create opportunities for him to progress towards National Age Grade and the professional game.
When you add in Greg, Osian and Tyler then we have a good variety of skills coming through in players from across the East, West, and South of the region.
In our efforts to create future professional and international players for Wales, as well as a strong and sustainable future for RGC, we typically need to progress more players through into the Senior Academy programme. Therefore, strong junior programmes are essential in laying strong foundations across a wider group of players, and at the senior end we need a more flexible approach towards supporting the needs of the players as they balance both their rugby and academic/vocational ambitions.
