U16s Slay the Dragons

U16s Slay the Dragons 9 Sep 2019

U16s make it 2 wins from 2 games

Dragons Black Under 16s 12-55  RGC Under 16s

Make no mistake. This wasn't the straightforward win that the scoreline might suggest. The Dragons competed right up until the final whistle and RGC had to compete hard for each and everyone of their scores. It was in fact the Dragons who scored the first points of the game when they crossed for a try after only 3 minutes and it took another 10 minutes for RGC to reply with one of their own from fly-half Tom Jarman. Further scores were to come in the first period from Man of the Match Huw Davies ( 2 ) and Cain Jones. Jones converted 2 of the 4 tries scored to make it a half-time score of 24 points to 7 in RGC's favour.

The second half started in much the same way as the first had with the Dragons scoring the opening try, but this was to be their only score of the half with RGC running in further tries from Huw Davies ( 2 ), Tomos Hughes, Rob Muirhead and Cain Jones . Jones slotted over 3 further conversions to give RGC a 55 points to 12 victory. Speaking afterwards Head Coach couldn't hide his delight at what had been a great team performance,

' Every single player from 1 to 23 put in a performance today and whilst I am delighted with the tries that we scored what was equally pleasing was the way in which we defended. The Dragons had a lot of possession and the fact that we restricted them to only 12 points shows just how far we have come over the last few months. We still have a lot of work to do and will be focusing this week on facing the Dragons Red squad next Sunday in what I am sure will be a highly competitive game.'
