A message from Sion
December promises to offer some festive fun, as we now face a string of back to back fixtures taking us through to the New Year.
With Premiership fixtures against Neath, Swansea and Bridgend, followed by Round 1 of the WRU National Cup just around the corner, we are facing a challenging period, especially with the added layer of injuries and player availability.
Today we welcome Cross Keys RFC to the home of North Wales Rugby, and following their recent good performance and 26-18 win over Llandovery RFC, they are sure to be making the trip up North in a confident mood.
Last weekend we were on the road again down at Aberavon RFC, and although we had a number of players missing through injury, the side put in a good shift, but sadly it was a case of too little, too late. Saturday was a slightly frustrating day, as I think that all of you who made the journey down would all agree that the game was for us to take. Aberavon relied heavily on their set piece; in particular their scrum was the dominant factor in the first half which seemed to weaken in the second half, suggesting that our approach to playing high-octane style of rugby is still an integral part of the brand of rugby that delivers positive returns for RGC.
Karl Martin made a positive impact when he came off the bench in the second half, after surviving a couple of high shots from the opposition, he did all the basics in tough conditions and scored an impressive try.
A special mention and thank you to RGCSC, who once again made the long trip down south last weekend, to ensure the team had the great support for the full 80 minutes.
News over the last few weeks has been dominated around the ongoing issues surrounding Neath RFC. I personally hope the club is allowed the space and time it requires to address all the off-field problems. Club competitions in Wales needs the likes of Neath RFC especially with their rich history, so I wish them all the best and hope that they are able to turn things around.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Enjoy the match.
