U18s: Ospreys Report

RGC Under 18s 12-22 Ospreys Under 18s

Although RGC Under 18s finished this years RAG competition with a loss against a strong Ospreys side, it was a game whose result in doubt right up until the final whistle.

The home side started strongly and with a strong wind behind them the vast majority of the opening 20 minutes was spent inside the visitors 22.

However they were unable to turn this pressure into points and the opening score when it did come, came from the Ospreys when Rhys Harries slotted over a penalty.

Their lead was to be extended just before half-time when left-wing Riley Henderson popped up on the right hand side to touch down in the corner and give the visitors an 8-0 lead at the break.

In spite of now having a strong wind in their faces it was RGC who opened the second half scoring when following a lineout close to the Ospreys line, hooker Aaron Williams was driven over to reduce the Osprey's lead to 3 points. This was to be extended shortly afterwards by Cameron Jones forcing his way over for the Ospreys second try and with Harries slotting over the extras their lead was up to 10 points.

Back RGC came again and it was Aaron Williams who was to score again from close-out. The tricky conversion from the touch-line was converted by Dafydd Williams and as the game went into the final 10 minutes the Ospreys lead was back down again to only 3 points. With both sides looking nervy and making mistakes it became clear that whoever scored next would in all probability clinch the win for their team. An off the ball incident meant RGC were reduced to 14 players and from the resulting penalty the Ospreys had a lineout deep in the home side's territory. With the final play of the Matthew Hutchinson dived over from close range and that together with a successful conversion meant a final score of 22 points to 12 for the visiting side.
