Semi-Final Saturday

Semi-Final Saturday 23 Mar 2023

RGC head to Merthyr on Saturday to play Cardiff in the cup semi-final. This will be the Gogs 2nd semi-final cup appearance, as back in 2017 they defeated Merthyr before going on the lift the trophy.

With RGC celebrating the 10th anniversary of winning Division 1 East, and a journey that has taken them through the leagues, the players will be looking to add to the history of North Wales Rugby.

Head Coach Ceri Jones is looking forward to the challenge “We have been fortunate in having a 2-week build-up for the game on Saturday.  Training has been good, competition for places in healthy and in fact probably the most it has been all season.

When we have played Cardiff we have caused them problems, but not got the result.  Having only played them 4 weeks ago, we have been able to review the game and look at our game plan for Saturday.

It’s exciting for players and fans, and we are looking forward to it and hopefully do the job and get RGC to another Cup Final."

Captain Afon Bagshaw was one of the players who lifted the cup back in 2017,    and wants to repeat it again in April.

"After a good 2 weeks of training and no game last weekend, we are all chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch and play. I feel we will go into the game as underdogs, which is a good thing in my view no pressure will be on us. From our perspective, it’s nothing to lose and all to gain. We just need to go out and play how we know we can.”

The Gog support is expected to travel south with good numbers knowing a win will mean a cup final awaits.    It is the biggest game of the season and RGC are 80 minutes away from another final at the Principality Stadium.
