It has now been 10 years since RGC set out as a fully-fledged development region in Division 1 East, when they played away at Gilfach Goch. Much has happened since that day and RGC now find themselves as 2017 National Cup Winners and a well established Welsh Premiership side.
A number of activities will be taking place throughout the year in order to remember the past decade and the first of these is to announce a special home kit with a sleek matte black finish and celebratory gold emblems. In addition to the colours, the Roman numeral X has been used in the design and most significantly, all 143 who have represented RGC since that first fixture are listed on the rear of the shirt.
RGC General Manager Alun Pritchard is pleased with the outcome of the design “It has taken a long time to get to this point, with a lot of hard work liaising with sponsors and, in particular our kit supplier Oxen. We wanted to ensure everyone was happy with the final design you now see.
The most important thing for me is to recognise the players that literally fought their way through Division 1 East and the Championship to get us to where we are now represented on the jersey. We owe those players a lot and won’t forget the sacrifices they’ve made travelling south week in week out over the past 10 years.
Over the past decade a large number of people have given a huge amount off the field as well; coaches and support staff (including those in the Age Grade system) who have helped develop the North Wales playing talent that has represented the senior side deserve a special thanks.
All the effort can never be understated as it has ensured we have North Wales representation at the top tier of Welsh rugby and will hopefully pave the way for even greater things in the future”
Elite Pro Sports/OXEN CEO Lee Jenkinson - “We are honoured to work on such a prestigious shirt with RGC for the 22/23 season. The progress that the club have made in the last ten years is nothing short of remarkable, and to recognise all 143 players who have been part of this journey is a wonderful touch by the club. The shirt, along with a wider range of merchandise than ever before, will be available shortly and we would encourage fans to sign up to the RGC retail newsletter, to be the first to see the range for the 22/23 season”
