RGC End Season with the Win

RGC End Season with the Win 29 Apr 2023

RGC 24 Swansea 10

Saturday 29th April

RGC ended the season with a Bonus Point win in front of a 634 crowd at Colwyn Bay RFC.

The first 20 minutes were pretty flat with both sides struggling to get any momentum.

Both sides were reduced to 14 men with yellow cards for Joe Simpson and Matt Dodd as the game started to have a few niggles.

The All Whites took the lead with a penalty from Jamie Davies, and had a good spell with ball in hand.

Gogs captain Afon Bagshaw tried to spark some urgency into his side with a couple of strong runs, but the attacks were littered with handling errors.

RGC did cross the line, when a superb break from Sam Williams on his 50th game set up Efan Jones for his 11th try of the season. Dion Jones hit the conversion.

Try number 2 came just on the halftime whistle when RGC had a couple of strong scrums and the ball went to Danny Cross to dive over the whitewash. Dion Jones again added the extras.

The second half started with RGC on the front foot, with Dan Owen on the at the attack.

RGC’s defence was called into action when Bagshaw and Owen both put in some big tackles.

Swansea were given another yellow when Gareth Rees was sin-binned.

The Gogs took advantage when Danny Cross scored his 2nd try of the game and extended his side's lead.

That lead was cut when full-back Gareth O. Rees scored in the corner and Jamie Davies converted.

As the clock ran down Matt Buchanan opened up the field with a ran but was chased down as the line was in sight.

The bonus point try arrived with Dion Jones crossing line to make it 24-10.

In the final minutes another scuffle occurred and it resulted in a Billy McQueeney red card and a yellow for Swansea’s Cameron Jones.
