New RGC U16s Head Coach Appointed

New RGC U16s Head Coach Appointed 10 Jan 2023

Latham Tawhai will take on a new role within the RGC Academy and now lead on the Performance Pathway Programme from U16’s and below including supporting the U15’s Pathway Programme of players and coaches. He will be supported in the role by Dafydd Roberts, Paul Shanks and a host of senior players from the club as well to continue the work they started with Mike Stubbs who returned to Australia at the end of last year.

Latham brings a wealth of experience to the role having been with RGC coming up 11 years now as part of the Senior and Pathway Coaching Group.

He played age-grade rugby union for Auckland and North Harbour in New Zealand and is a former professional rugby league player and a dual international (Rugby League and Softball). His coaching experience ranges from amateur, professional and international level, and was twice voted coach of the year at different levels.

Latham spent 5 years coaching in the Super League before joining RGC. He has just completed the WRU’s High-Performance Coaching Programme (Level 4) and RGC are delighted to have a coach of his calibre work with our Age Grade players.

Performance Manager Josh Leach is delighted to see Lath become 16s Head Coach "We put a lot of value on the Pathway Programme and see it being vital to the future of the RGC and this appointment illustrates that. Our commitment to developing players and coaches to become the next generation of Welsh U18s, 20s, 7s and full Internationals in both men’s and women’s rugby remains a high priority for the organisation and having top quality coaches at all levels of the pathway is crucial to achieving that for North Wales Rugby."
