Hughes - Focus on Basics 23 Oct 2018

Tom Hughes Expects Tough Challenge

RGC head home on Saturday, looking to get back to winning ways.  It has been a disappointing couple of week’s results wise, including their 1st away defeat of the season against Carmarthen last Saturday.

The players will be looking to put in a performance before the Premiership takes a break for a couple of weeks, plus build some momentum heading into November.

Looking back at the last couple of games, key points at key stages have turned the games and unlike last season perhaps mistakes are being punished with points against.  With the added factor of relegation teams are fighting for every point, which has seen some interesting results. None more so than Bargoed’s win against Aberavon last weekend.  The Wizards were unbeaten in 7 games, but that meant nothing on the day with Bargoed picking up an impressive victory. They will arrive with a strong scrummaging game, which has won them 4 penalty tries in the past 4 matches.

RGC Centre Tom Hughes is experienced enough to know that focus on doing the basics is key “We have always taken one game at a time, focusing on the 80 minutes and that hasn’t changed for us. We are in a different position, especially with our current home record but we can’t change what has gone before.  All we can do is concentrate on our performance , and make sure we do our job. Bargoed are always a tough test for us, and we have had some close games over the years….the Aberavon result tells us they will come at us full of confidence.  The supporters have been great over the past few weeks home and away, and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about on Saturday.”
