Cup Quarter Final Awaits

19 Jan 2022

RGC face Pontypridd on Saturday for the re-arranged Indigo Group Cup pool game.  The winners will go through to the quarter-finals and face Llandovery, so for both sides, it is all to play for.

This game feels like it has been a long time coming, as Head Coach Ceri Jones and his side have prepared to face the visitors on a couple of occasions for it not to happen pre-Christmas.

Danny Cross “For players the job is really clear, we win and we go through, so really this has a cup knock out feel to it already.   It’s been a mixed bag for us in 2022, and we know that we need to raise our game on Saturday.  It was a close-run match last time at Ponty, as they edged the win so we expect another close one this week.  With that in mind, it is about making sure we do the basics right and put ourselves in a position to win.
It will be good to get the crowds back fully, and hopefully, we can get a good number cheering us on Saturday.  It’s a chance to get into the quarter-final and then you are a couple of wins away from a cup final, which is a huge incentive”

Following on from the side's defeat to Cardiff last weekend, Head Coach Ceri Jones is looking for a response from his side in training “We need to look at ourselves and do better, Cardiff will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and that is where we want to be…but we need to reach that level by performing well."

"As a group, we now look ahead to Pontypridd, and it is a team we know well after preparing to play them several times but not actually playing them. Working on our maul defence and the transitions, we can’t afford to be off the game against Pontypridd so we will focus this week”.
